|This summer school aims at providing a platform for the advancement of the state of the art in biomimetic and biohybrid research, student training and the development of a common research agenda. BCBT is positioned at the interface between neuroscience, future and emerging technologies and cognitive systems and it is supported by a number of European research consortia in particular the Convergent Science Network of Biomimetic and Biohybrid Systems||
BCBTs principal aim is to promote a shared systems-level understanding of the functional architecture of the brain and its possible emulation in artificial systems. With respect to FP7 this means that BCBT is catering to the research communities addressed by the “bio-ict convergence”, Brain Inspired ICT and “cognitive systems-robotics”. BCBT is aiming at making a positive contribution to the development of an active and integrated multi-disciplinary research environment in these areas.
BCBT is a bottom-up activity in a series with the Capo Caccia Cognitive Neuromorphic Engineering Workshop and a number of associated schools and workshops all supported by the Convergent Science Network of Biomimetic and Biohybrid Systems
You can see all the references and schedule of the previous summerschool at BCBT (visit the web of the last year summerschool with all the references)
BCBT caters to the students and researchers involved projects that are in the ambit of “bio-ict convergence” "brain Inspired ICT", “cognitive systems-robotics”
***All BCBT participants should be members of "The Convergent Science Network of biomimetic and biohybrid systems" (CSN)
Target audience (N = ~50 active full-time): PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, members of associated EC IST consortia.
Lectures (2 x 2 hours including sufficient time for discussion),
Jam session, no slides (30 minutes presentation on future results)
Week 1: Tutorials: simulation techniques, robot control techniques, experimental design, analysis methods, etc
Week 2: Tutorials, Project work
REGISTRATION Application page »
BCBT will offer up to 30 student slots for the practical workshops while as many researchers of the associated projects can sign up to attend the presentations and discussion sessions as are interested. For the lectures the limit will be placed at 75 given the capacity of the available lecture theatre.
** The registration fee is 250 €.
*** BCBT has a number of student scholarships available. The scholarships cover travel expenses, accommodation and registration fee. All reimbursements will be done once the Summer School is finished.
The BCBT summer school will be hosted by SPECS, the Synthetic Perceptive, Emotive and Cognitive Systems Group at the Technology Department of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. This has a number of practical reasons. On one hand SPECS at UPF can directly provide all spaces and infrastructure required to support the workshop. On the other, Barcelona is easily reached from most European airports and provides an inspiring back drop for the summer school with its beaches and world renowned culture. The organizers believe that in this way both the costs of the event and the effort involved in running it and the scientific outcome will be optimized.
Sponsored by Convergent Science Network (CSN)
CSN is funded by the 7th Research Framework Programme FP7-ICT-CSN-248986
