Rhythms, Songs and Noise: What Spontaneous Neural Activity tells us about the Brain. By Roberto Fernández Galán
Start: 11:30
End: 12:15

Abstract

I will review classical and recent work on how spontaneous neuronal activity at different levels, from EEG signals to single-cell dynamics, inform us about how the brain is wired. I will overview some strategies to analyze and interpret those data. In particular, I will show that recurrent motifs of spontaneous neuronal activity reflect preferred quasi-stable states of cortical networks, i.e. attractors. Finally, I will interpret these results in terms of cognitive processes.
